This talk centered on Hamming's observations and research on the question ``Why do so few scientists make significant contributions and so many are forgotten in the long run?'' From his more than forty years of experience, thirty of which were at Bell Laboratories, he has made a number of direct observations, asked very pointed questions of scientists about what, how, and why they did things, studied the lives of great scientists and great contributions, and has done introspection and studied theories of creativity. The talk is about what he has learned in terms of the properties of the individual scientists, their abilities, traits, working habits, attitudes, and philosophy .

Life - Philosophy
be like the flowing river,
Silent in the night,
be not afraid of dark,
if there are star in the sky,reflect them back.
if there are cloud in the sky,reflect them back too
be glad,be calm,be generous , be a life,
in your own tranquil depths....
The distinction is subtle,but it is same distinction as between the mind and heart,between logic and love ,even more appropriate,between prose and poetry....
A destination is a clear cut thing...direction is intuitive..A destination is something outside you more like a thing...Direction is a inner feeling..not an object.you can feel direction ..you can not know it.you can know destination..you can not feel it.Destination is in the future,Once decided you start manipulating you life towards it.
When you decide destination,it is the past that decides.your experience of the past,your knowledge of past decide.you kill the future than you go on repeating the past .. a little modified..a little changed a bit here and there according to you comfort,convenience, repainted ,renovated but it still come out as past.one starts functioning like a mechanism..
Direction is something ALIVE,in the moment.it knows nothing of future ,it knows nothing of past but it throbs,pulsate,its Here,its Now.Out of this pulsating moment another moment is created.Not by any decision you made,but just because you live the moment. Destination is fixed by the mind,direction is earned by living.One want to be doctor,engineer,painter........
these are destination....
Directions ? - One simply lives the moment in deep trust that life will decide.One lives this moment so totally that out of this totality a freshness is born.Out of this freshness,past dissolves and future starts taking shape,but is not given by you ,this shape is earned by you.... & each moment ...That is it... That is it !!!!! Be like a river...
To Know --
To Know means to be silent,utterly silent,
so you can hear the still,small voice within.
To know means to drop the mind.
When you absolutely still,
unmoving nothing wavers in you,
The Door open.....
you are part of this existence...
you know it by becoming part of it,
by becoming a participant in it.
That ... is knowing..
